Services and Programs Officer

Clerk Grade 5/6

Locations - Long Bay Correctional Complex

Employment Type - 6 Month contract

Salary - Clerk Grade 5/6 (starting at $97,027 - $107,059 plus Environmental Allowance superannuation + leave loading)

Your role

As a Services and Programs Officer (SAPO), you'll be at the forefront of delivering vital programs and services to reduce reoffending, promote behaviour change, and support the wellbeing of those in custody. You'll be embedded in the Correctional Centre, receiving day-to-day direction and support from your local directorate, while working closely with our Strategy & Policy branch to maintain high standards of program facilitation and service delivery.

Program delivery plays a critical role in addressing key factors of offending and supporting positive behavioural change, making your contribution essential to our success.

What you'll do

As part of the Services & Programs Officer you will

  • Provide induction, assessment, support, case management and reports
  • Facilitate group-based programs to people in custody
  • Deliver strategies and programs that promote well-being and enhance the safety for people in custody
  • Undertaking individual interventions for people in custody as required
  • Resolve critical situations by providing information, expertise, support and referrals
  • Assist inmates with pre-release planning
  • Maintain documentation and case notes on all people in custody
  • Work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders - including those in custody, families, multi-disciplinary staff, and agency members that support our work
  • Develop networks with key internal and external agencies to enhance positive outcomes for people in custody

What we're looking for

  • Knowledge and understanding of the transitional factors affecting people in custody and their families
  • Ability and experience in assessment, case management and intervention with people in custody with complex behaviour and attitudes
  • Demonstrated ability and/or experience in delivering group-based interventions
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of alcohol and other drug dependence, domestic violence, pro-criminal behaviours and attitudes, and evidenced based interventions

In addition, the successful candidates need to:

  • Be able to work collaboratively with people in custody, their families, and colleagues from a variety of backgrounds
  • Be comfortable and confident in running group and/or individual sessions to people with diverse needs and challenging behaviours
  • Be able to act with integrity and display resilience in the face of challenges
  • Complete the Certificate IV in Correctional Practice

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, mental-health or other human service fields; and/or demonstrated relevant equivalent experience working with family, social, and/or drug and alcohol related issues
  • Current Certificate IV in Correctional Practice with the necessary Units of Competency for this role - or the capacity to complete Certificate IV in Correctional Practice (internal training offered by Corrective Services Academy) in accordance with specified timeframes
  • Current driver licence with ability and willingness to travel throughout NSW
  • Australian or New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident for ongoing appointments

Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) delivers professional correctional services and programs to reduce reoffending and create safer communities. We house remand and sentenced inmates in correctional centres and supervise offenders serving orders in the community.

CSNSW provides reports and advice to courts and releasing/parole authorities and assesses offenders in the community and in custody for relevant interventions to reduce their risks of reoffending. CSNSW works in partnership with other government and non-government justice and human services agencies to support victims, facilitate restorative justice and promote reintegration.
