
Tree Surveillance Officer

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced tree inspector to join the Urban Forest and Open Space team.
About the Role:
We’re looking for a proactive and skilled professional to help manage the risks associated with trees in an urban environment while supporting the long-term health and sustainability of Ballarat’s urban forest.
In this role, you will:
- Lead tree inspections and data improvement initiatives in line with the City of Ballarat’s Tree Management Plan, Australian Standards, and industry best practices.
- Investigate and resolve tree-related damage to Council assets.
- Support safety investigations and help implement corrective actions.
- Liaise with a wide range of stakeholders including utilities, developers, and property owners regarding works on public land.
- Coordinate arboricultural services, consultants, and resources to support insurance claims, tree retention, and risk mitigation—while managing budgets effectively.
- Deliver excellent customer service and apply strong conflict resolution skills to ensure positive community outcomes.
About you:
You’re a qualified and experienced arboriculture professional with a strong understanding of tree risk and urban forest management. You bring:
- A Diploma of Arboriculture or extensive relevant experience in the field.
- Certification or working knowledge of Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) and/or Quantified Tree Risk Assessment (QTRA).
- Proven experience managing tree-related issues, ideally within a local government setting.
- Strong skills in data collection, analysis, and digital tools to support informed decision-making.
- Familiarity with urban asset protection and the challenges of managing trees in built environments.
- A current Victorian Driver’s Licence
