The Role
The Senior Asset Surveillance Officer position will provide leadership and advice for an operational team tasked with undertaking asset surveillance across the City of Ballarat. This existing role has increased resourcing as a response to demands from city growth, ensuring compliance from building and service activities, and updating permit and consent processes.
This position will:
- Oversee the compliance of external works on City of Ballarat land to ensure our assets like roads, kerb and channel, footpaths, drainage systems and street trees are protected, and reinstatement works meet City of Ballarat standards.
- Undertake and support other officers in proactive and reactive inspections of City of Ballarat infrastructure assets to identify and record defects, conditions, and other information.
- Guide Asset Surveillance Officers tasks, ensuring both routine and ad hoc inspection activities are undertaken in a timely manner, including responding to changing the team’s focus at short notice in response to shifting demands.
- Provide comprehensive information on assets involved in public liability insurance claims.
- Provide exceptional customer service to external and internal clients alike.
- Engage with key stakeholders such as contractors, builders and service authorities.
- Ensuring asset surveillance activities adhere to all occupational health and safety requirements.
- Displaying a strong commitment to continuous process and procedural improvement.
About You
The successful candidate will have previous experience in an asset management, asset compliance and/or asset construction, ideally within local/state government organisations.
Demonstrated experience in supporting small teams manage tasks and decision making, coupled with high level communication and ability to investigate and analyse compliance matters with a high level of attention to detail.
Key Selection Criteria
- Experience in data collection, data management and computer technology.
- Experience in Local Government Asset Protection, municipal or building construction, subdivision development, drainage or pavement works, or similar.
- Good interpersonal skills (both written and oral) with a demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and deal with difficult customers.
- Demonstrated ability to take on challenging tasks and deal with them in a consistent and timely manner.
- Strong general administrative support skills, enabling the undertaking of a broad range of tasks with minimal ongoing supervision
- Proven ability to act as a point of escalation within a team, supporting other staff in a constructive manner and taking direction from senior staff
- Current VicRoads ‘Car’ Driver’s licence or equivalent.
- Knowledge and understanding of health and safety issues relevant to work activities and work area.
