Are you an experienced and compassionate Support Worker with a passion for supporting individuals with psychosocial disabilities and complex mental health needs? Sunflower Services, a dedicated NDIS provider in the Newcastle, Adelaide and Burleigh, is looking for an Experienced Supported Independent Living (SIL) Support Worker to join our growing team.
This role focuses on working with participants who live with a variety of psychosocial diagnoses, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, PTSD, and dual diagnoses. We support participants with high and complex needs, including behaviours of concern, and provide 24/7 care in SIL environments which consist of helping the participant with daily living, medication management, and implementing behaviour support plans. This role is suited to individuals who are experienced in managing crises and using trauma-informed practices to support people through challenging behaviours.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 24-hour support within SIL homes in accordance with participants' NDIS plans and goals.
Assist participants with daily living skills, personal care, community access, and therapeutic engagement.
Manage and support behaviours of concern including self-harm, suicidal ideation, aggression, absconding, and emotional dysregulation.
Use trauma-informed, person-centred and therapeutic crisis intervention (TCI) approaches to provide support during times of escalation.
Implement and adhere to Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) and restrictive practices, where authorised and required.
Conduct medication administration and support health-related routines as per clinical and NDIS requirements.
Attend buddy shifts and BSP training prior to commencing unsupervised support work.
Maintain clear, respectful, and professional communication with participants, families, and team members.
What we are looking for:
Minimum 1–2 years’ experience supporting individuals with psychosocial disabilities or complex mental health needs.
Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice, co-regulation, and de-escalation techniques.
Confident and calm in supporting behaviours such as self-harm, suicidal ideation, verbal/physical aggression, and crisis situations.
Demonstrated experience with medication management, restrictive practices, and incident documentation.
Knowledge of NDIS guidelines, particularly related to behaviour support and restrictive practices.
Excellent emotional intelligence, resilience, and interpersonal skills.
Willingness to work a variety of shifts, including sleepovers, active nights, and weekends.
