The Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia Limited (AHCSA) is the peak body representing Aboriginal community-controlled health and substance misuse services in South Australia at state and national levels.

Our primary role is to be the ‘health voice’ for all Aboriginal people in South Australia. We achieve this by advocating for the community and supporting workers through our Member Services with appropriate Aboriginal health programs based on a holistic perspective of health.

Summary of the Role

AHCSA is participating in the First Nations Health Worker Traineeship program, an Australian government initiative designed to support up to 500 First Nations individuals in undertaking accredited training in the health sector to become either an Aboriginal Health Worker (AHW) or an Aboriginal Health Practitioner (AHP) by 2027.

The National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) is responsible for delivering the program, with AHCSA receiving funding for a Jurisdictional Traineeship Coordinator position to oversee the program's implementation in South Australia.

The Jurisdictional Traineeship Coordinator (Coordinator) is responsible for managing all aspects of the program to ensure effective delivery in South Australia. This includes promoting the program, facilitating enrolments, matching trainees with Member Services, and providing ongoing support to both trainees and Member Services throughout the traineeship process.

The Coordinator works closely with AHCSA’s Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to manage the training components of the program. Additionally, the position offers information and guidance to Member Services and trainees regarding available funding opportunities and support, while building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders to enhance the program’s success.
