The Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia Limited (AHCSA) is the peak body representing Aboriginal community-controlled health and substance misuse services in South Australia at state and national levels.
Our primary role is to be the ‘health voice’ for all Aboriginal people in South Australia. We achieve this by advocating for the community and supporting workers through our Member Services with appropriate Aboriginal health programs based on a holistic perspective of health.
Summary of the Role
AHCSA is participating in the First Nations Health Worker Traineeship program, an Australian government initiative designed to support up to 500 First Nations individuals in undertaking accredited training in the health sector to become either an Aboriginal Health Worker (AHW) or an Aboriginal Health Practitioner (AHP) by 2027.
The National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) is responsible for delivering the program, with AHCSA receiving funding for a Jurisdictional Traineeship Coordinator position to oversee the program's implementation in South Australia.
The Jurisdictional Traineeship Coordinator (Coordinator) is responsible for managing all aspects of the program to ensure effective delivery in South Australia. This includes promoting the program, facilitating enrolments, matching trainees with Member Services, and providing ongoing support to both trainees and Member Services throughout the traineeship process.
The Coordinator works closely with AHCSA’s Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to manage the training components of the program. Additionally, the position offers information and guidance to Member Services and trainees regarding available funding opportunities and support, while building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders to enhance the program’s success.
Key Responsibilities
Program Promotion and Enrolments: Promoting the traineeship program, providing information and facilitating enrolments
Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Building: Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and providing advice on additional funding opportunities and supports
Trainee Support and Engagement: Supporting trainees through regular points of contact and identifying additional support options
Community of Practice and Collaboration: Participating in community of practice meetings and governance structures to facilitate collaboration and share best practices
Reporting and Evaluation: Fulfilling reporting requirements and participating in program monitoring and evaluation activities
Essential Experience
Experience in mentoring and supporting students, including on trainee or work placements.
Experience in developing and maintaining effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders to meet program outcomes, including state and national government stakeholders, Aboriginal organisations, employers and Aboriginal communities and individuals.
Experience in data collection, record management and reporting through the monitoring and analysis of databases.
Experience in writing evaluation reports for government funded programs.
Desirable Experience
Previous working experience in the Aboriginal community-controlled health sector.
Experience representing organisations at national level forums.
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
Certificate III in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care

Requires the ability to travel intra-state and interstate, including overnight absences.
National Police Certificate is required.
