About the Role
Our client is seeking a seasoned Estimating Manager to lead and manage the estimating and tendering function across major Defence and Local Government projects valued at $20 million and above. This is a strategic position that plays a critical role in securing high-value work, enhancing bid accuracy, streamlining the tender lifecycle, and embedding construction expertise early in the procurement process.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing compelling tender submissions, coordinating cross-functional resources, identifying and mitigating commercial risk, and driving efficiencies throughout the pre-contracts function. This role is a key contributor to the company’s long-term growth objectives and will be instrumental in boosting tender output and competitiveness.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the preparation and submission of high-quality tenders in accordance with client specifications and company standards.
• Develop and implement bidding strategies aligned with company growth and profitability goals.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and key stakeholders to gain competitive advantages.
• Coordinate internal teams (estimating, engineering, procurement) to deliver seamless tender submissions.
Identify new business opportunities through market analysis and strategic targeting.
• Develop detailed cost estimates for projects exceeding $20M, using historical data, supplier pricing, and market trends.
• Collaborate with project teams to validate the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of bids.
• Introduce and maintain advanced estimating tools and methodologies to increase accuracy and efficiency.
• Proactively manage risk throughout the tendering process.
Qualifications and Experience
• Tertiary qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience in estimating and tender management for large-scale construction projects.
• Proven success leading tenders in the Defence, Government, or infrastructure sectors.
• Strong commercial acumen and understanding of construction risk profiles.
• Advanced knowledge of estimating software and digital tools.
What We’re Looking For
• Minimum 5–10 years’ experience in a Estimating Manager or Senior Estimator role.
• Demonstrated experience successfully delivering tenders on projects ranging from $20M to $100M+.
• Experience working across Defence, Government, or Tier 2 commercial construction environments.
• Proven ability to manage multiple complex tenders concurrently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with internal and external stakeholders.
