About The Opportunity
We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Work Health and Safety Officer to provide hands-on support and practical WHS advice across Council’s varied operational areas. In this role, you will play a vital part in fostering a positive safety culture by ensuring compliance with WHS legislation, supporting the continuous improvement of Council’s safety management systems, and contributing to the effective use of WHS software programs. This is a dynamic opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of our workforce.
About You
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety, or a formally recognised equivalent qualification.
- Demonstrated experience delivering front-line WHS support in a medium-to-large, operationally diverse and high-risk workplace, contributing to safe performance through practical hazard control, inspections and training.
- Sound working knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Qld), associated Regulation and relevant Codes of Practice, with the ability to translate requirements into clear procedures.
- Confidence in facilitating toolbox talks, induction sessions and WHS training that engage a broad workforce and reinforce safe behaviours and actions.
- Experience maintaining WHS documentation and electronic systems, including chemical manifests and Safety Data Sheet registers, drug-and-alcohol test records, inspection findings and hazard reports.
- Current Queensland Class C driver licence and willingness to travel regularly between depots, offices and field locations.
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122) or an equivalent adult-education qualification desirable.
- Rehabilitation and Return-to-Work Coordinator accreditation, or willingness to obtain within an agreed timeframe desirable.
- Previous WHS experience in Queensland local government or a comparable public-sector environment, including familiarity with contractor management processes and powered mobile plant verification-of-competency practices desirable.
