Why This Role Matters
Irena Care is expanding into Far-West NSW to respond to the urgent need for culturally safe, community-led NDIS services in regional and remote towns. We're looking for a respected Aboriginal leader to guide our work on Country, strengthen relationships with mob, and ensure all supports reflect culture, dignity, and choice.
This is your opportunity to lead real change—walking with community, not ahead of it.
Why Join Irena Care?
Be the voice of change—lead First Nations–driven NDIS services in Far-West NSW
Your culture, your way—we back your leadership and lived experience
Work flexibly with paid cultural leave and a team that genuinely respects your voice
Your Role
As the Cultural Lead, you will be at the heart of our work with Aboriginal communities—ensuring everything we do is culturally informed, community driven, and grounded in respect.
You will:
Build trusted relationships with Elders, ACCHOs, Aboriginal health services, schools, and community organisations across Dubbo, Broken Hill, Wilcannia, Bourke, Brewarrina, and nearby communities
Help families and participants navigate the NDIS through yarning circles, info sessions, and 1-on-1 support
Provide cultural mentoring to Irena Care’s staff and leadership, supporting safe, inclusive practice
Represent Irena Care in PHN, hospital, interagency, and government forums, advocating for better outcomes
Deliver cultural safety training and support the embedding of cultural protocols across services
Contribute to the design of programs, communications, and service improvements that align with community priorities
About You
Identified Role – Only open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants (s 50(d) EO Act)
You’re deeply connected, committed to your community, and known for your strength, compassion, and voice.
You bring:
Strong ties to Western and Far-West NSW Nations and communities
Community networks with groups like Maari Ma Health, Outback Division of GP, Aboriginal Medical Services, schools, or local councils
Experience in community engagement, health, disability, youth work, or human services
Confidence in working with Elders, families, and professional stakeholders
A valid NSW Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel across the region (travel allowance provided)
Police Check, WWCC (NSW Working With Children Check), and NDIS Worker Screening (or willingness to obtain)
What We Offer
Competitive salary + salary packaging (tax benefits)
Travel allowance and mobile phone (BYO laptop)
5 weeks annual leave, including paid NAIDOC and cultural ceremony leave
