The Opportunity

Cunningham Cattle Company is seeking an experienced and passionate Head Stockperson to join the team at Esmeralda Station, located 110km south of Croydon, 280km north of Richmond in northern Queensland. If you thrive working with cattle, enjoy leading from the front, and are passionate about mentoring others in a hands-on environment, we want to hear from you.

As Head Stockperson, you will work closely with the station management team to oversee and guide day-to-day operations. You will lead and develop the stock team, ensuring that all activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in line with best animal welfare practices.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and motivate the stock team to deliver daily work plans effectively and safely.

Mentor team members in all aspects of station operations.

Coordinate and participate in cattle handling, mustering, fencing, yard work, water and lick runs, and general station duties.

Support the implementation of animal welfare standards and station best practices.

Work collaboratively with station management to achieve operational goals.

About You

We are looking for someone with the following experience, skills and attributes:

Proven leadership experience in a similar station or livestock role.

Confident in managing people and guiding team performance.

Strong communicator with the ability to provide clear direction and feedback.

Hands-on approach with a passion for working outdoors in remote areas.

Practical experience in cattle handling and station maintenance on a large-scale property.

Committed to animal welfare and safety standards.

Comfortable with remote living and able to contribute positively to station life.

Current driver’s licence and own vehicle required for travel to/from station.

Q Fever vaccination is required (reimbursement available for successful candidates).
