About the Role
The Marketing & Communications Manager – Digital & Content is a key member of the Marketing & Communications team and the organisation’s lead storyteller. You’ll bring our brand, campaigns, and member services to life through compelling content, clear messaging, and high-performing digital experiences.
This is a fast-paced, creative, and cross-functional role, responsible for delivering content across websites, newsletters, campaigns, and member communications. You will be the editor-in-chief of our weekly EDMs and own our digital tone of voice, ensuring consistency, clarity, and creativity in every touchpoint.
You’ll collaborate across departments, from advocacy and membership to events and executive and play a vital role in positioning the Smart Energy Council as the most trusted, action-focused voice in the industry.
Key Responsibilities
Content Strategy & Copywriting
● Develop and execute high-quality, multi-channel content strategies aligned with business goals
● Write, edit, and proof compelling content for EDMs, web, social, reports, press, and speeches
● Own and champion the organisation’s brand, voice and narrative
● Lead persuasive corporate writing in support of advocacy, membership, events, and sponsorship
Digital & UX
● Manage the company website: maintain up-to-date, relevant, and engaging content
● Facilitate UX and web design improvements with a focus on clarity and user journey (Wordpress experience is highly desirable)
● Lead editorial planning and calendars across teams
Email Marketing & Member Engagement
● Compile and design weekly sector newsletters (EDMs) tailored to key member audiences
● Use email marketing platforms (e.g. HubSpot, ActiveCampaign, Beefree) to execute campaigns
● Track engagement metrics and refine content for continuous improvement
Graphic Design
● Create on-brand visual assets using Canva (Photoshop or InDesign a bonus)
● Support collateral development across membership, events, and digital campaigns
Executive & Strategic Support
● Contribute to executive communications: speeches, presentations, statements
● Work cross-functionally to ensure key messaging is consistent across departments
● Track, report and optimise the impact of communications and campaigns
About You
You are a confident communicator, highly organised, and deeply creative. You’re just as comfortable designing a member newsletter as you are running political campaigns. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and love turning complex ideas into compelling content.
A successful candidate demonstrates initiative and is a self starter.
You bring:
● 5 years’ experience in communications, marketing, or digital content roles
● Proven copywriting and editorial skills, with a strong eye for tone and structure
● Experience managing websites and improving UX (preferably with WordPress/Elementor)
● Proficiency with Canva (Photoshop or Adobe Suite a plus)
● Basic photo editing skills for short form social content
● Experience with email marketing platforms (BeeFree, HubSpot, ActiveCampaign, etc.)
● Excellent project management and stakeholder coordination skills
● Strategic mindset with creative execution capabilities
● Strong attention to detail and deadline-driven
● Google ads and Paid social campaign experience.
Bonus if you have:
● Experience in a membership-based, advocacy or not-for-profit organisation
● Proficiency in B2B digital marketing and growth strategies
● Familiarity with the renewable energy or sustainability sectors Education
● Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, or related field
● Additional certifications (HubSpot, UX Design, Graphic Design, SEO) are a plus
