About the role

The City is seeking suitable applicants to fill a number of current Project Manager vacancies, full-time and part time and fixed term as well as registering interest of candidates for future needs. As a Project Manager, you’re the person who manages relationships with stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and co-workers across the City’s road, drainage and or other infrastructure. Reporting to the Principal, Project Delivery – City Projects, you will lead and participate on capital project delivery for our assets and operational works to ensure deliverables are on time, to budget and within standards.

This role is part of a collaborative project delivery team made up of approximately four project managers, two civil designers and support staff. The team is responsible for managing a suite of up to twenty medium and minor capital projects on brownfield sites to be delivered within a 12 to 18 month cycle. The projects are mostly civil, and infrastructure works across Roads, Drainage and City Building Assets and include some minor electrical projects in the program as well. You will be involved throughout the project delivery phases, including initiation, design, contract documentation, tender, delivery, and commissioning.

Key responsibilities:

We are looking for someone with sound project management background in the engineering or construction field, or you might come from a Trades or other project management background. In addition, you may have experience with:

  • Scope review and project delivery strategy.
  • Tendering and contract award processes, and contract administration processes.
  • Contractor management and stakeholder management.
  • Construction experience including quality and HSE site inspections.

About the successful candidate

The successful candidate will have a sound project management background with either; Tertiary or Trade Qualifications in Engineering, Construction, Project Management; or Project delivery experience in other fields of work. A background in Local Government or a Service Authority would be advantageous. Other essential requirements include:

  • a current C-A or C class Driver’s Licence.
  • well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • sound supervisory and leadership skills with relevant experience.
  • strong problem solving, analytical, and research skills.
  • Current National Police Certificate and General Construction Induction 'White Card'.

This permanent, full-time position offers a salary of $98,805 - $114,945 pa plus superannuation, dependent on skills and experience.

The City of Nedlands is situated just 7km from Perth and stretches from the banks of the beautiful Swan River to the edge of the Indian Ocean. A population of over 21,000 live in the suburbs Nedlands, Dalkeith, Mt Claremont, Swanbourne, Karrakatta, and parts of Floreat and Shenton Park. On 1 July, 1959 the City of Nedlands was proclaimed at the command of Governor Sir Charles Gairdner, in the packed Dalkeith Civic Hall. Mr Allan Jenkins read out the proclamation and the Minister for Local Government, Mr Leslie Logan, M.L.C. conducted the official swearing in ceremony of the new Mayor, John Charles Smith, the twelve new Councillors and the auditors. He then appointed Mr Allan Jenkins as the City's first Town Clerk. Among those present was MLA for Nedlands, Deputy Premier Charles Court.

Significant events and dates that contributed to the development of the City of Nedlands:

1893: The first move to establish Local Government in our area with the creation of the Claremont Road Board on 31 March, 1893, governing a total area of ten square miles; forty years after the death of Adam Armstrong, Nedlands' first resident.

1898: Approximately two square miles excised to form the Municipality of Claremont.

1932: Name changed from Claremont Road Board to Nedlands Road Board.

1956: Name changed from Nedlands Road Board to the Municipality of Nedlands.

1959: One hundred and thirty years after the first British settlement around the Swan River, Nedlands achieved City status. Name changed from Nedlands Road Board to the City of Nedlands while under the guidance of Mayor John Charles Smith Esq., JP Mayor.
