About the role
Reporting to the Property & Construction Claims Portfolio Manager, within the Insurance Services Division, you are responsible for managing a portfolio of claims that delivers client focused recovery solutions that restore confidence and build a more resilient Victoria.
This is an exciting ongoing opportunity as a Senior Claims Specialist, working with a team of claims specialists and claims officers who provide best practice strategic claims management.
You will play a key part in educating our clients and building their knowledge of emerging trends and strategies aimed at reducing the level and frequency of claims to heighten their risk management capability.
Key responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of property and construction claims, including high quantum, complex and strategically significant claims for our clients by applying best practice claims management processes and ensuring compliance with VMIA claims manual and delegations
- Build and forge strong client relationships to positively influence the resolution of claims and ensure client participation throughout the claim's management process.
- Work in partnership with appointed loss adjusters and strategically engage other specialist third party providers to support the claims management
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to meet the strategic claims management needs of clients support the analysis of claims data and portfolio trends.
- Mentor and guide members of your team to support the role of the Claims Portfolio Manager.
Who you work with
- Work closely with your peers across the Insurance Services division and the broader organisation to design, develop and implement key Insurance Services programs and initiatives
- Communicate and consult regularly with the Risk, Insights and Products and Service teams to inform trends, market needs, changes, and new opportunities for initiatives
- Provide occasional information and updates directly to the Executive and Board. You may also present on strategic program or initiatives related to client or sector from time to time.
What we are looking for
- 5+ years experience in a property and construction claims management role with an insurer or loss adjuster, especially in the handling of more technically complex matters including indemnity issues across the property and construction risks.
- A proven track record of successful management of complex claims, with expert knowledge of claims management issues and
- You are a seasoned professional with highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, proven client relationship management experience and the ability to influence stakeholders and negotiate mutually beneficial outcomes
- You have knowledge and experience in insurance claims management along with the capacity to analyse and interpret claims information and data sources. You can demonstrate how you have used this intel to identify trends and strategic opportunities for improvement
- Highly demonstrated capability to manage the performance of claims service providers to ensure that agreed service standards and fees are
- An understanding of the complexities and nuances of public sector management, with the capacity to operate successfully in such an environment.
Qualifications
- You hold a tertiary qualification in, Insurance, Business, Commerce, Finance, Law, or relevant discipline (highly desirable).
- You may also hold a professional membership with a risk management, Insurance, or relevant.

Salary Information
At VMIA, we offer competitive salaries based on the role's classification and your skills and experience. Typically, new employees start at the minimum of the salary range, however, consideration may be given to starting above the minimum of the band should you demonstrate extensive experience in a similar role or possess unique and desirable skills and capabilities required to perform the role.
