Join Me – Help Lead Donor Relationships That Protect Wildlife
Hi there. I’m Troy Kenah, Charity at Wildlife Conservation International (WCI). I’m looking for a new teammate – someone who genuinely loves talking to people, who gets joy from connection, and who wants their work to help protect endangered species.
This is a new role in our team. It’s not about admin. It’s not about managing a big staff team. It’s about relationships. Specifically, it’s about looking after around 400 wonderful mid and major donors, and having 400+ truly meaningful conversations with them each year.
You’ll help people feel seen, valued, and connected to something bigger than themselves. And in doing that, you’ll help raise millions of dollars that go directly to field conservation across Australia, PNG, and Southeast Asia.
A Little More About the Role
You’ll be our new Major & Mid Donor Relationships Lead. That means:
You’ll own a donor portfolio: around 400 people, of whom you’ll actively engage at least 200 each year. You’ll plan calls, follow up personally, and help build relationships that last.
You’ll spend most of your time in contact: Not in meetings, not writing long reports. Our aim is for you to be in conversation 80–90% of the time.
You’ll use great tools: CRM, AI for follow-ups and storytelling, templates, story banks, a fundraising team that has your back.
You’ll grow our impact: In year 1, your goal is to maintain our current income from this group, including salary (~$3.4M). In year 2, we’re aiming for a 10% uplift. And beyond that? That’s up to us.
You Might Love This Job If You...
Feel at home on the phone or in Zoom with donors
Know how to listen and when to ask
Can write a follow-up email that feels personal and real
Like planning your week around donor contact (not around internal noise)
Want your work to mean something – to donors, and to wildlife
You might come from a fundraising background. Or you might have worked in philanthropy, customer care, major gifts, or partnership roles. What matters to me is that you love people, can hold a conversation, and will take initiative.
Some Logistics
Remote-first: You can work from anywhere. We’d love it if you're in Australia, but that’s not a dealbreaker.
Full-time and permanent
Four Day Week
$109k + salary packaging (approx. $120k value)
Start date flexible – ideally August to October
Some travel expected: You’ll visit at least one of our field projects to see the impact of your work up close
What You’ll Be Backed By
A friendly, mission-led team that values your time and energy
Systems and tools that let you focus on people
Mentoring and learning resources to keep you growing
A founder (Leif Cocks) who will gradually hand over donor relationships with full support
If this sounds like something you could thrive in, I’d love to hear from you. You don’t need a perfect CV. You do need the heart and motivation to build something that matters.
Please note! We will not consider applications that are not accompanied by a cover letter as we just want to make sure applicants have read the entire job description.
Apply soon – I’ll be reviewing applications from late July.
