About the Role:
The Design Manager plays a vital leadership role in overseeing the coordination and approval of design elements for commercial and industrial construction projects. Reporting to senior management, this position is responsible for managing the entire design process, leading a team, consulting with stakeholders, and ensuring all designs meet quality standards, client requirements, and regulatory compliance. The role demands strong project management skills, leadership capabilities, and a deep understanding of construction approvals and building codes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the entire design process from concept through to construction approvals, ensuring compliance with project specifications and client requirements.
- Manage and mentor the design team, fostering collaboration, productivity, and professional development.
- Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to facilitate communication and coordination throughout the project life-cycle.
- Oversee project time-lines, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure design milestones and projects are on schedule and within budget.
- Ensure preparation and submission of all necessary documentation for council approvals to obtain construction certificates (DA, CC, CDC).
- Deliver key design stages, including marketing materials, design drafting, and comprehensive documentation.
- Conduct rigorous quality assurance reviews of design documents and drawings to ensure accuracy, feasibility, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 5+ year's experience in design management or coordination, preferably within commercial and industrial construction sectors.
- Proven leadership experience managing design teams and projects.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and methods in commercial and industrial settings.
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and other relevant tools.
- Exceptional project management, communication, and organisational skills.
- Extensive knowledge of Australian building codes, standards, and regulations.
