Job Description – Laboratory Technician
The Laboratory Technician will be primarily responsible for conducting laboratory tests on rubber materials to ensure product quality and compliance with applicable standards. Testing includes evaluation of material properties such as hardness, elasticity, tensile strength, flame resistance, and Rheo analysis, along with other tests as required for field-returned or quarantined samples.
Key Tasks:
- Conduct quality control tests (hardness, tensile strength, flame resistance, Rheo analysis, etc.)
- Record, analyse, and interpret test results
- Review quarantined stock and assist with product disposition
- Operate and maintain lab equipment (Rheometers, UTMs, flame testers)
- Prepare and manage test samples with traceability
- Follow lab safety protocols and perform weekly safety audits
- Support incoming inspections and continuous improvement initiatives
About you
To be successful in this position – you’ll need:
- Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and a methodical approach to testing
- Ability to follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, organised lab environment
- Effective communication skills and a collaborative, outcome- focused approach
Working hours
Working hours will vary across different shifts, including weekends. Flexibility is essential in this role. Overtime will be paid at applicable penalty rates.
Experience & Qualifications
- Background in Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
- 2–3 years’ experience in a laboratory or testing environment, ideally within manufacturing
- Practical experience with lab equipment such as Rheometers, tensile testers, and flame testers preferred
- Familiarity with rubber materials and relevant testing standards/procedures
- Experience in rubber or polymer manufacturing is highly regarded
