HorizonOne Recruitment

The National Archives of Australia plays a vital role in preserving the history and identity of the nation by ensuring government records are managed with integrity and made accessible to the Australian public. Within this purpose-driven agency, the Corporate Services Branch underpins operational excellence through the ethical and effective management of financial, procurement, HR, and property services.
The Finance and Procurement Section sits at the centre of this mission, supporting business areas across the Archives to ensure compliant, value-for-money procurement that stands up to scrutiny. The team is approachable, knowledgeable, and committed to lifting the standard of procurement across the organisation.
Employees here enjoy a respectful, collaborative workplace where hierarchy takes a back seat to teamwork, professional growth is encouraged, and flexibility is balanced with purpose.
The Opportunity
This is a rare opportunity for a procurement professional to move into an advisory-style role in a small, supportive team at the heart of a nationally significant institution. Whether you’re looking to step up into your first APS6 role or want to bring your existing procurement skills into a more meaningful, values-led context, this role gives you room to grow.
You’ll be trusted to partner with business areas across the Archives, guiding them through complex procurement challenges while improving documentation, reporting, and process maturity. You'll be supported by a grounded, people-first manager who understands the importance of autonomy, flexibility, and professional respect.
With long-term career pathways, exposure to unique procurement categories, from conservation and exhibitions to digital platforms, and support for further learning, this is a role where your contributions will be both recognised and valued.
The Role
As a Procurement and Contracts Officer, you’ll be a trusted internal adviser helping business areas navigate the Commonwealth Procurement Rules and PGPA framework. Sitting within the Finance and Procurement Section, you’ll work closely with the Assistant Director of Procurement and Contracts.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide advice to business areas, reviewing procurement documentation and ensuring compliance with CPRs and internal standards
- Upload and manage procurement activities through AusTender and internal systems like Tech One
- Support reporting obligations, including Senate reporting and contract lists
- Advise on use of panels including the People Panel, BuyICT, MAS, and several NAA-specific panels
- Draft and maintain user-friendly templates and guidance material to support better procurement practices
- Manage contract registers and ensure obligations are tracked and met
The Ideal Person
You enjoy working in an environment where your advice is sought out, your input matters, and your relationships across the business are built on trust and mutual respect. You thrive in roles where you can coach others, translate complex rules into practical advice, and contribute to improving systems rather than just following them.
Whether you come from a government, not-for-profit, or private sector background, you’ll bring a sound understanding of procurement fundamentals and an appetite to deepen your expertise in the Commonwealth context. You may already be confident navigating CPRs and the PGPA Act, or you may be eager to learn, either way, your curiosity, attention to detail, and clear communication style will set you up for success.
You’re likely looking for a workplace that values balance, where a hybrid work arrangement is built on trust and the culture is easy-going but accountable. You’re motivated by meaningful work, a tight-knit team, and a leader who invests in your development and gives you the space to deliver.

- Supportive, non-hierarchical team culture
