About us
The Dabu Jajikal Aboriginal Corporation (DJAC) was established in 1993 to manage and protect the cultural and natural values of our sea, reef and coastal Country. We represent Jajikal (Sea & Reef Country) families, Traditional Owners of the Bloomfield River and Weary Bay (Balabay) area.
Located on the south-east coast of Cape York. Our Country is from Mangkalba (Cedar Bay) Ngalba Bulal National Park in the north, down to Ngamujin (Emmagen Creek) in the south, east from the sea-facing slopes of the Wet Tropics World Heritage area, out across the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage area to the Coral Sea Marine Park.
We work closely with Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, the National Indigenous Australians Agency and the Queensland Department of Environment and Science. Our principal research partner is James Cook University.
Recently, DJAC has obtained funding to expand the Ranger program on our Country and as such, we are looking to attract suitably skilled and experienced candidates for the Ranger Coordinator position.
About the position?
Based at Ayton at DJAC’s Ranger Base, the Ranger Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring the Dabu Jajikal Ranger Program meets key project deliverables as defined by established funding agreements and the organisation’s strategic planning for the Dabu Jajikal people and their Country. The position is responsible for leading the Ranger team in achieving results across a wide range of conservation and land management activities and cultural heritage projects.
About you
To be successful in this position you will be able to demonstrate the following:
Sound knowledge of Indigenous culture and connection with Country, or ability to quickly acquire. Specific knowledge of the Dabu Jajikal community, culture and connection with Country will be highly regarded.
Current, best practice knowledge of cultural heritage, conservation and land management practices.
Proven project management skills with the ability to administrate and coordinate activities across multiple projects to meet project deliverables.
Proven leadership and mentoring skills successfully applied to an Indigenous workforce.
Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and persuade across a broad demographic.
Sound knowledge of WHS risk management practices relevant to Ranger Program activities.
Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline and/or significant relevant industry experience will be required.
In addition, your ability to demonstrate suitable skills, experience and current qualifications in maritime operations and safety will be highly regarded.
Although not essential for this position, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.
