The Organisation: A leading Queensland government department is currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Accountant or Finance Manager for a P04 level role. This represents a brilliant opportunity to work in a diverse and interesting role with none of the usual end of month reporting pressures. This department is providing ongoing and indispensable support to the lives of Queenslanders. It is an organisation you will be proud to work for and you will value the impact they make in the community. You will be working closely with the Finance Director, Chief Financial Officer, and key stakeholders across the department. You will not be working excessive hours. This role is initially a temporary position for 3 months to provide temporary support.
The Position:
This role will be diverse but will require you to be responsible for:

• Undertake internal reviews into current practices, processes, and results. This will involve working across multiple stakeholders in the department to understand current processes and identify any areas for improvement
• Reviewing existing policies and procedures
• Writing updated polices and financial management practices that can be applied across the department
• Reviewing fixed assets across the department and managing an annual stock take.
• Standard financial reporting responsibilities

Your Profile:
This role will be an ideal opportunity if you can demonstrate:

• Commercial experience with an interest in transitioning into a government role or if you have government experience you would like to expand on.
• An enjoyment for project-based work that is not consumed by the traditional end of month accounting processes.
• An ability to build strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders
• An aptitude for asking highly effective questions to understand existing processes and systems
• Experience writing/updating policies and procedures
• Experience managing stock takes
• Expertise on ERP systems
