We are seeking an experienced and strategic AO6 Senior Policy Officer to contribute to the development, analysis, and delivery of policy initiatives that support the department's overall objectives. This role is based in the Brisbane CBD and is for an initial 6-month contract.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and evaluation of complex policy proposals and initiatives.
• Conduct in-depth policy research, data analysis, and stakeholder consultations to inform strategic direction.
• Provide expert policy advice to senior leadership, executive teams, and external partners.
• Draft high-quality policy papers, briefing notes, reports, and submissions.
• Monitor and respond to legislative, regulatory, and political developments relevant to the organisation's interests.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, industry bodies, and community organisations.
• Represent the organisation in high-level meetings, forums, and consultations.
• Mentor and guide junior policy staff, contributing to a high-performing policy team.
• Ensure alignment of policy work with organisational values, strategic plans, and regulatory frameworks.

Key Selection Criteria

• Significant experience in policy development, preferably within government, public service, or a policy-focused organisation.
• Experience in policy writing.
• Strong ability to analyse and research complex issues and information.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clear accurate documents for diverse audiences.
• Proven stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
• Sound understanding of government processes, policy cycles, and political contexts.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Demonstrated leadership experience and mentoring capabilities.
