About the role:
Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Audit, the Team Leader, Environmental Audit leads and manages a team responsible for the management of the Environmental Audit program, including the maintenance of auditor guidance materials and the appointment, re-appointment, and discipline of environmental auditors. You will drive improvements to the quality of environmental audits, preliminary risk screen assessments and other functions undertaken by environmental auditors. Your work will align to EPA's strategic priorities to prevent harm to the environment and human health from pollution and waste. This is a senior role for an experienced regulator that wants to contribute to the success of the EPA as it enters a new era of environmental protection in Victoria. Working closely with the Manager, Environmental Audit, you will lead and manage a team through change to ensure a positive organisational culture and ensure the highest standards of performance and integrity are achieved; and foster genuine partnerships across all levels of government, industry, and community to deliver organisational outcomes.
In this role you will:
- As a senior member of the Environmental Audit Unit, lead and manage a team to achieve high standards of performance, accountability, collaboration, ethics, and integrity; manage the allocation of resources, budgets, business and project planning and reporting; and demonstrate a strong commitment to a positive culture and the development of staff.
- Develop and implement policies and process for the appointment, re-appointment, and disciplinary action (conditions, suspensions, revocation) of Environmental Auditors, ensuring the requirements of the Environmental Protection Act 2017 are complied with.
- Deliver the Environmental Audit program, including the review of the scope of audits and preliminary risk screen assessments submitted prior to audits commencing (within 30 business day of submission).
- Develop and maintain auditor guidance and conduct audit meetings as required.
Skills and experience:
- A relevant tertiary degree and/or post graduate qualifications in law, environmental science, quality management or a related discipline is desirable.
- Leadership experience in an assurance function, preferably within Government.
- Proven ability to apply relevant government legislation, regulations, reporting directives and procedures, to achieve optimal organisational outcomes.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, including building a shared sense of direction, clarifying priorities; identifies and responds proactively to complex and strategic issues impacting the operating environment.
- Technical expertise in land and groundwater assessment and remediation processes and management of pollution from industrial sources.
