About our Opportunity:

Are you someone who is motivated by making sure the numbers line up, the deadlines are met, and the systems run smoothly — while contributing to something that matters?

Due to continued growth, Youth Inc. is seeking a Finance & Payroll Officer for a newly created position. The purpose of the role is to support the day-to-day finance function and deliver accurate, compliant, and timely payroll services. This is a critical role in a small, values-driven team where your skills will make a real difference behind the scenes.

Reporting to the Business Manager, you’ll be responsible for payroll, accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, and supporting reporting and budget processes. This role is suited to someone who’s organised, detail-oriented, and confident working independently.

About Youth Inc.

Youth Inc. is a purpose-driven, non-traditional secondary school for young people aged 17–24, based in Adelaide’s CBD. Focused on social impact and re-engaging students through real-world, project-based learning, it offers flexible pathways to complete SACE and VET qualifications.

The team of approximately 30 staff lead with passion and purpose, creating a supportive environment where personal growth, wellbeing, and individual strengths are nurtured. This same philosophy shapes the organisation’s culture — prioritising the development and support of staff to ensure students thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare end-to-end fortnightly payroll, including superannuation, leave entitlements, deductions, and timesheet management.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and award conditions (Educational Services Award).
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable functions, including processing invoices, purchase orders, and preparing payments.
  • Support month-end and year-end financial reporting, reconciliations, and audit preparation.
  • Assist in budget tracking, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Provide finance-related administrative support and contribute to continuous improvement of systems and processes.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, external vendors, and funding bodies as required.

Why Work at Youth Inc.

  • Make a real impact in a growing, purpose-led organisation
  • Access NFP salary packaging benefits
  • Thrive in an inclusive, values-driven team culture
  • Enjoy flexibility with part-time hours and work-from-home options
  • Be part of a team that celebrates individuality and connection

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • At least 3 – 5 years’ experience in a similar finance/payroll role, ideally in a school, not-for-profit, or SME environment.
  • Strong understanding of payroll legislation, superannuation, and award interpretation (Educational Services Award desirable).
  • Solid experience with accounting and payroll software (MYOB highly regarded).
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A proactive mindset with a focus on accuracy, integrity, and service.
  • You’re someone who thrives in a values-led, inclusive, and fast-paced environment where people are passionate about their work.
  • Relevant qualifications in bookkeeping, payroll, or accounting (preferred but not essential).
  • Current Working with Children Check and National Police Clearance (or willingness to obtain).
