About the Opportunity
We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the Ngangkita Ngartu team as a Clinical Midwife, where you will be responsible for:
- Supporting the Midwife Unit Manager in achieving quality patient care through clinical education
- Facilitating and maximising learning opportunities for ward/unit staff
- Demonstrating developing leadership, coordination, and management skills
- Promoting a multidisciplinary team approach to care and education
- Ensuring effective and efficient use of available resources
- Accepting accountability for personal practice standards and delegated activities
- Guiding and supporting the development of less experienced staff
- Collaborating with other health professionals, women and their families, and external agencies to achieve optimal health outcomes
- Encouraging a collaborative approach among all nurses and midwives
About Ngangkita Ngartu
Ngangkita Ngartu (Aboriginal Family Birthing Program) is a specifically designed service to meet the cultural and clinical needs for Aboriginal women and non-Aboriginal women with Aboriginal babies accessing care at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Ngangkita Ngartu provides a model of care, developed on Grandmothers Law and Birthing on Country Principles. Ngangkita Ngartu is a cultural model with a clinical partnership. Aboriginal Maternal Infant Care Practitioners/workers work in partnership with midwifery workforce to provide antenatal care, postnatal home visiting, and cultural support throughout the journey of the woman through WCHN. The role requires a blend of clinical expertise, communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure while providing high-quality, empathetic care.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse or Nurse/Midwife by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
- Registered Nurse/Midwife with at least 3 years post-graduation experience or currently classified as a Clinical Nurse/Midwife
- Demonstrated competence in the relevant area of midwifery practice in accordance with NMBA and relevant professional college standards of practice.
- Effective communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise workload and meet set timelines whilst working under minimal supervision.
