Team Leader

Child Law - DCJ Legal

  • Principal location - Parramatta - Flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
  • Employment type - Temporary position (12 Months with possibility of extension) - Full time (35 hours per week)
  • Salary - Clerk Grade 5/6, Base Salary ($97,027 - $107,059), plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

Your role

Are you an experienced leader ready to make a meaningful impact? This is a great opportunity to lead a high performing team supporting child protection legal work. You will guide and support Legal Assistants while driving process improvements and contributing to better outcomes for vulnerable children and families.

What you'll do

As part of the Child Law team within DCJ Legal, you will supervise a team of Legal Assistants and oversee their workflow, providing training, support, and resolving complex procedural queries.
You will lead procedural reviews, manage allocations, and contribute to staff recruitment and development.

You will also:

  • Train and develop Legal Assistants in using OneTRIM and LAMA to manage legal files
  • Ensure timely and accurate allocation of legal requests through the central mailbox
  • Update and communicate procedural guides and workflow documentation
  • Monitor and support team performance to ensure high-quality service delivery
  • Identify and implement improvements to team processes and efficiency
  • Collaborate with the Principal Manager on recruitment, shortlisting, and interview processes
  • Provide leadership during periods of change, supporting a positive and professional team culture
  • Assist with data reporting and administrative compliance where required
  • Work as part of a supportive and collaborative team committed to excellence in legal administration.

What we're looking for

  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience in a legal or administrative environment.
  • Strong knowledge of legal matter systems like OneTRIM and LAMA, plus Microsoft Office tools.
  • Experience in training, mentoring, and developing staff across systems and procedures.
  • Clear and confident communicator with excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.

Appointments are subject to reference checks. Some roles may also require the following checks/ clearances:

  • National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014
  • Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012
