About Us
Akeyulerre Aboriginal Corporation was established by Arrernte Elders in 2000 as a place for Arrernte people to practice, celebrate, and pass on their culture. Known as the “healing centre,” Akeyulerre supports families through cultural healing, traditional practices, and community-led social enterprises. We are a not-for-profit, Aboriginal-governed organisation based in Alice Springs.
The Role
We are seeking a passionate and culturally grounded Youth Mentor & Engagement Officer to support the delivery of youth programs for Aboriginal young people aged 10–17. This role works under the guidance of the Program & Community Engagement Manager and contributes to initiatives such as the Youth Gathering Ground (YGG) and Young Men’s Camps.
You will help strengthen cultural identity, connection to country, and community safety through collaborative, responsive, and culturally safe programming. The role involves supporting planning, implementation, and evaluation of youth activities, maintaining strong relationships with families, Elders, and stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with funding agreements.
Key Responsibilities
Support the delivery of youth programs aligned with IAS and Closing the Gap outcomes.
Collaborate with staff and Elders to ensure cultural integrity and community engagement.
Assist with program planning, reporting, and data collection.
Promote youth participation and cultural leadership.
Represent Akeyulerre in community forums and stakeholder meetings as delegated.
About You You are committed to working respectfully with Aboriginal communities and have experience supporting youth-focused programs. You bring strong organisational skills, cultural awareness, and a collaborative spirit.
Selection Criteria
Experience supporting youth programs with cultural safety and measurable impact.
Strong skills in community engagement, especially with Aboriginal families and Elders.
Ability to assist with program monitoring, reporting, and compliance.
Understanding of Arrernte culture or willingness to learn.
NT Ochre Card and National Police Check (or willingness to obtain).
NT Driver’s Licence.
Desirable
Experience in Aboriginal community-controlled organisations.
Understanding of social enterprises and youth development frameworks.
First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
