About the Position
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Leading Hand Mechanic to join our Waste & Fleet team. In this role, you will assist the Workshop Supervisor in coordinating the servicing, maintenance, and repairs of the City’s fleet and plant equipment. The Leading Hand position will also provide leadership and direction to all trades personnel, and mentorship to the City’s apprentice, ensuring high standards, important trade skills and excellent customer service are preserved.
Key Responsibilities
The duties of the Leading Hand - Mechanic will include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate and perform maintenance and repairs on the City’s plant, equipment, and vehicle fleet.
- Provide leadership and direction to trades personnel, ensuring efficient and high-quality work.
- Liaise with the Administration Officer Fleet Workshop regarding parts ordering.
- Assist with the adherence to the City’s safety programs within the workshop.
- Relieve the Workshop Supervisor during periods of leave.
About You
The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don’t tick all the boxes, you could still be a perfect fit for this role. Please apply, all applications will be considered.
- Relevant trade certificate.
- Extensive experience as a Mechanic Tradesperson.
- Experience working in a major service workshop servicing heavy equipment.
- Commitment to providing the highest level of internal and external customer service.
- Current ‘HR’ Class Driver’s Licence (or willingness to obtain during the probationary period).

This 12 month fixed term full-time position is a Outside Workforce Agreement position which attracts a salary from $110,120 gross pro rata per annum plus superannuation.
To be eligible to work for us, you need to provide, or have ability obtain a:
- A copy of Australian driving licence
- National Police Clearance (valid within the last 3 months)
- Pre-Employment Medical and DAS clearance
- The right to work in Australia
