This Western Sydney Council is seeking a Catchment Management Planner with strong project leadership skills and a passion for sustainable urban water management. The ideal candidate will be strategic, technically proficient, and confident collaborating across departments and with external stakeholders to deliver forward-thinking flood and stormwater solutions.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a growing urban region through the delivery of major flood risk, waterway, and stormwater management strategies. You’ll work as part of a high-performing, multi-disciplinary team focused on building long-term environmental resilience through planning and infrastructure innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Project manage flood risk management studies, plans and reviews of planning controls

Coordinate floodplain, stormwater, coastal, and catchment management programs

Provide strategic advice on LEPs, DCPs, and Section 10.7 Certificates

Develop and implement actions from the Catchment and Waterways Strategic Plan

Engage consultants and manage budgets for environmental planning projects

Liaise with State and Federal agencies for funding and compliance

Promote Water Sensitive Urban Design principles in capital works and planning

Review and prioritise stormwater and flood infrastructure programs

Collaborate with regional councils and agencies on catchment-scale initiatives

Skills and Experience

Tertiary qualifications in engineering, environmental science, planning, or a related field

Minimum five years’ experience in floodplain management or environmental planning

Strong understanding of NSW Flood Risk Management process and relevant legislation

Skilled in consultant management, procurement, and grant applications

Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects with multidisciplinary input

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Experience applying Integrated Water Cycle Management and WSUD principles

Ability to advise on strategic planning instruments and environmental policy
