About the Role
This position, Catchment Management Planner, is part of a team responsible for managing and developing strategies related to stormwater, floodplain, and integrated water cycle management in a specific city or catchment area. Below is a breakdown of the role's responsibilities and key areas of focus:
Key accountabilities include:
Strategic Planning & Development:
- Develop and implement key actions in line with the Catchment and Waterways Strategic Plan.
- Plan and execute stormwater management, floodplain management, and integrated water cycle strategies.
- Work on floodplain risk management and provide strategic advice regarding planning instruments like DCPs (Development Control Plans), LEPs (Local Environmental Plans), and Section 10.7 certificates.
Project Management:
- Commission and manage consultants and contractors.
- Handle project budgets and ensure the delivery of projects within the required financial constraints.
- Lead the preparation and review of multi-year programs for stormwater, flood, and waterway management works.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate with government bodies (federal, state) to secure funding for projects.
- Work with external stakeholders, such as catchment committees, other councils, and agencies, for coordinated management.
- Coordinate consultation and negotiations for special projects, working cross-departmentally within the organization.
Research and Policy Development:
- Conduct research and provide strategic input on various issues related to Floodplain Risk Management, Stormwater Management, and Water Sensitive Urban Design.
- Ensure that stormwater, flood, and waterway management plans and works are continually reviewed and improved.
Advisory & Compliance:
- Provide expert advice on floodplain, catchment, and coastal management issues to both internal and external parties.
- Ensure compliance with relevant policies and planning instruments in environmental management.
Operational Coordination:
- Coordinate the development of key management plans for floodplains, stormwater, and waterways.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of ongoing projects and ensure that they align with the broader strategic objectives of the city.
About You
- Tertiary qualifications in civil/environmental engineering, natural resource management, environmental science, planning, or a related field.
- Minimum five years of experience in floodplain management or similar roles.
- Desirable: Experience in Local Government and understanding of Coastal Management Program.
