About the opportunity

The Finance Officer is a key position in the central Finance Research Support team and has specific responsibilities in relation to the efficient and effective financial management and reporting of the University’s research projects.

What you’ll do:

  • Review contract agreements and implement existing processes to ensure all financial obligations are captured in the University's Research Administration System. This includes data required to establish new projects and associated budgets in the Finance System.
  • Ensure invoices to funding providers are raised on a timely basis and in accordance with the contract.
  • Action contract variations, including associated amendments to the project record in the Finance System and the University's Research Administration System, and any necessary adjustments invoicing and financial reporting requirements.
  • Monitor the Finance Research Support shared inbox and ServiceNow inbox, escalating queries where required to ensure all requests are dealt with in a timely and customer focused manner.
  • Support development and maintenance of procedural documentation for all areas of responsibility.
  • Assist with other duties which may be reasonably required within the role’s classification level, for which the incumbent has received adequate training and instruction.

What we’re looking for:

  • Sound financial, analytical, and problem solving skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel, Word and outlook, with the willingness to develop skills and learn new applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilise Finance and other business systems to accurately capture and process data.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to effectively liaise with Researchers and other areas within the University in a flexible and collaborative manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a customer service environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment toward customer focused approach to service delivery by utilising various mediums of communication including phone, email and meetings.
  • Familiarity with corporate financial software systems (ideally Technology One Financials system).
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under imposed time constraints to ensure prompt responses to queries and requests from Internal and External stakeholders.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 4 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $88,479 pro rata comprising base salary within the range of $71,387 to $75,623 plus 17% superannuation.
