The role
Join the high performing Planning Directorate as our Manager Business Services, where you'll play a critical leadership role in shaping and delivering streamlined, innovative and high quality business operations.
As a trusted advisor to the Director Planning, you'll lead a dedicated business services team, oversee core administrative functions and drive strategic initiatives that enhance efficiency, compliance and service delivery. This role is central to ensuring the Directorate's operations are well-supported, future-ready and aligned with broader organisational goals.
You'll manage a broad portfolio - including project coordination, budgeting support, business case development, internal communications and process improvement across the employee lifecycle. You'll also be responsible for stakeholder engagement, professional development coordination and ensuring corporate and legislative compliance across all business services activities.

Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Lead and coordinate the business services team, ensuring efficient workflows, resource allocation and high performance.
- Provide regular updates on team outcomes, operational performance and areas for improvement.
- Manage business operations, identify challenges and implement solutions to improve efficiency and service delivery.
- Lead process improvement initiatives and document best practice procedures to support continuous improvement.
- Analyse operational data to support informed decision-making and identify opportunities for enhancement.
- Coordinate projects, task delegation and operational schedules.
- Support budget reviews, forecasting, financial reporting and ensure budget compliance.
- Oversee purchase orders, invoice processing and expenditure tracking.
- Organise training and professional development to build a culture of learning and performance.
- Manage internal and external communications, including newsletters, reports, proposals and correspondence.
- Maintain and update Directorate website content to align with organisational priorities.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to promote effective communication and collaboration.
- Act as a liaison across teams to ensure smooth information flow.
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies and legislative requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and meet all reporting obligations.

You will have
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (e.g. MBA) and/or extensive senior-level experience in business services coordination and management.
- Proven background in business operations, administration or a related coordination role.
- Strong understanding of the New South Wales planning system.
- Demonstrated success in building and leading high-performing teams.
- Experience driving process improvement initiatives and enhancing customer experience.
- Well-developed financial management capabilities, including budgeting and reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality reports, briefings, and correspondence.
Desirable but not essential skills include proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, experience with collaboration tools (e.g. Wrike or Monday.com), project management qualifications (such as PRINCE2 or PMP), and experience in customer service or private sector environments.
The salary range for this opportunity starts at $111,988 (Grade I, Step 1) + 11.5% super. Salary is negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
