Marketing and Communications provide university-wide strategic marketing and communications advice and develop, manage and implement marketing and communications activities (including advertising) across all Griffith audiences including prospective and current students, staff, alumni, donors and corporate partners.

About the Opportunity
We’re seeking a dynamic Communications Officer to help elevate the University’s public profile through strategic and effective engagement with both mainstream and specialist media outlets. In this role, you’ll work closely with senior leaders, academics, and researchers to uncover compelling stories that align with the University's strategic goals and resonate with local, regional, and national audiences.
Key Responsibilities
As Communications Officer, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the reputation and visibility of the University by delivering high-impact media and publicity campaigns. Your core duties will include:
- Showcasing Griffith's achievements across corporate, research, student, alumni, and staff areas through mainstream, specialist, and social media.
- Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with key journalists and media outlets, including industry-specific publications.
- Proactively identifying media opportunities for academic experts to contribute to public discourse, responding to media enquiries, monitoring coverage, and providing feedback to stakeholders.
- Researching, writing, editing, and distributing high-quality content including media releases, op-eds, feature articles, and digital content that highlights the University’s impact.
- Leading the editorial process and overseeing the design and production of approved publications.
- Developing and implementing strategic publicity plans to support key campaigns and announcements.
- Coordinating press conferences and media visits, managing logistics, and collaborating with photographers and videographers to ensure comprehensive coverage.
- Collaborating with internal teams across Marketing and Communications—including the video content team—to deliver integrated media materials and campaigns.

About you
- Degree in Journalism, Communications or Public Relations and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a related role or professional experience equivalent to a minimum of 5 years in a related role.
Candidates must have full unrestricted Australian work rights and may be subject to a National criminal history check.
What we can offer
This is a continuing opportunity based at Nathan or Gold Coast. As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations.
HEW 6 Salary – Base range - $79,705.66 - $89,416.39 + 17% super. Full package range - $93,255.63 - $104,617.118.
