Our participants, Our people, Our purpose

Currently, there are around 5.5 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 717,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.

A new role awaits

The Foundational Communications team sits within the Strategic Communications Division and is responsible for championing simple, clear and consistent communications with an audience-led, content design approach. The Foundational Communications team is a place where your communications skills and passion for social impact can flourish. This makes every day at work both challenging and rewarding.

You will enjoy a culture of continuous learning and collaboration. Your work directly contributes to enhancing the lives of Australians with disability.

Where you can add value

The APS6 Strategic Communications Officer is required to consult and collaborate across teams and NDIA business areas to develop and deliver audience-led communications. This role is required to provide detailed technical, professional, policy, operational support and advice in relation to complex matters, taking a solutions-focussed approach to problem solving.

In accordance with the APS6 work level standards, responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Championing plain English and ensuring all collateral is accessible and aligns with the NDIS style and branding guidelines.
  • Leading through example, serving as a trusted communications expert, helping key stakeholders and internal business areas deliver the objectives of each project, by producing timely, relevant and effective communication plans and collateral.
  • Drafting clear, concise and effective communications for different audiences, including creation of narratives, key messages, talking points, speeches and products.
  • Contributing towards the development and delivery of different communications plans, progressing approvals and coordination of go-live collateral.
  • Identifying and developing important internal stakeholder relationships, addressing and resolving any emerging challenges with stakeholders.
  • Evaluating the impact of communications, identifying any future learnings and determining whether the identified objectives for each project have been achieved.
  • Supporting team members with administration, technical and procedural tasks.

Enough about us, let’s talk about you

Our ideal candidate will have exceptional organisational skills and high attention to detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for developing and maintaining meaningful stakeholder relationships. You are passionate and skilled in plain English and accessible communications.

We empower and enable each other to be our best. We collaborate, connect and work together to create a workplace that makes us proud. And while we're based far and wide across the country, we make sure nobody feels they are out on their own.

  • You will work for a socially inclusive and culturally diverse workplace, that is making a meaningful impact to the lives of more than 600,000 Australians.
  • Access to higher superannuation and above market leave entitlements
  • Competitive remuneration and working conditions that support a positive work life balance
