About the role
Join our team in assisting Aboriginal people to navigate Court and Tribunal processes! The Senior Aboriginal Advisory Officer (Higher Courts) is responsible for providing a high level of services and accurate information to Aboriginal court users that contribute to an efficient, effective and more culturally responsive court service.
The position is key in developing strategies and processes to educate the Aboriginal community about the operations of the State Administrative Tribunal and the Family Court of Western Australia (FCWA) and explaining rights, obligations, court procedures and protocols in language that Aboriginal people can understand and in ways that alters Aboriginal people's perceptions about court systems.
In addition to this, the Senior Aboriginal Advisory Officer is additionally responsible for:
Providing judicial officers and court staff with an understanding and awareness of Aboriginal issues, social structure, culture and tradition through a range of methods such as internal training, advice and positive advocacy measures.
Assisting in a variety of projects relevant to the Division and/or Branch. Provide special knowledge, skills and experience to the planning and development, implementing and evaluating of projects and activities to provide performance improvement.
Providing support and assistance to the outer metropolitan Magistrates Courts and Higher Courts on an as needs basis and where directed by management.
