CHIEF BUSH FIRE CONTROL OFFICER (CBFCO)
The Shire of Denmark is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to be our Chief Bushfire Control Officer (CBFCO) who can lead and support our Volunteer Bushfire Brigades. This is a key leadership position responsible for enabling and empowering brigade members, ensuring a high standard of community service, and maintaining the safety and wellbeing of all volunteers.

The Opportunity:
This is a pivotal role for someone passionate about community safety, emergency preparedness, and volunteer support. You will work closely with the Community Emergency Services Manager and other key stakeholders to enhance bushfire management across the Shire.
Key Responsibilities:
· Provide leadership, planning, and oversight to the Shire’s Volunteer Bushfire Brigades.
· Manage fire resources and act as Incident Controller during bushfire incidents as required.
· Promote the AIIMS Incident Management System and ensure incident reporting compliance.
· Identify training needs and support brigade training initiatives in collaboration with the CESM.
· Develop and promote SOPs, training standards, and WHS principles to ensure volunteer safety.
· Maintain strong communication with brigades, DFES, DBCA, and other emergency services.
· Represent the Shire in regional and local emergency committees and advisory groups.
· Assist in managing emergency service assets and improving response systems.
· Build brigade capacity and resilience through engagement, support, and leadership.
Position Requirements:
· Demonstrated experience in wildfire behaviour and AIIMS
· High-level project management, time management, and administrative skills.
· Accredited Level 1 Incident Controller – Bushfire Hazard (mandatory).
· Training & Assessing accreditation (desirable).
· Experience in volunteer management and community engagement.
· High-level communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and document management systems.
· Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as required.
· ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence (essential); ‘MR’ Licence (desirable).
· Current First Aid Certificate and Police Clearance (essential).
· Fire Fighting Skills(FFS) & Safety Awareness (BSA)
· Fire Control Officer

· Advanced Bush Fire Fighting

Hours: Part-time (0.60 FTE) position working 3 days per week.
Salary: $90,000.00 per annum pro rata and up to 16.5% superannuation, plus additional benefits.
