The Aherrenge Community Store Aboriginal Corporation (ACSAC) is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to support store operations on a full-time basis. The Store operates as general store, ATM, takeaway, fresh food and fuel.
About Us
Aherrenge Community Store is located in the township of Ampilatwatja (pronounced Um-Bludder-Watch), just off the Sandover Highway about 340 km from Alice Springs which is the nearest major centre. The community and surrounding outstations have a population of about 500 Aboriginal people and 25+ non-Aboriginal people. Ampilatwatja is mainly made up of Alyawarr people who speak English as a second language.
The Aherrenge Community Store was started by the community back in the 1970s from members own wages and ‘chuck in’ money. The Aherrenge Community Store Aboriginal Corporation was set up to own and run the store in 2010.
Ampilatwatja is a dry community which is strictly enforced. There is a health centre, primary school, shire office and arts centre. The nearest police station is in Arlparra which is about 75 km away.

Duties
The management team are responsible for:
Delivery of food security
Provision of key services to the community
Effectively operating the store for long term profitability and viability
Store staffing
Customer service and community engagement
Compliance to Federal and Northern Territory laws and regulations
In addition, the Assistant Store Manager will be responsible for cleanliness/maintenance of the accommodation building, ensuring it is presentable and ready for new guests daily.
Experience and qualifications
Prior retail/customer service experience at a management level
Awareness of and respect for Aboriginal culture and history and/or the willingness to engage and learn
Excellent communication skills, the ability to communicate sensitively in a cross-cultural environment, and willingness to take cultural advice from community representatives
Strong people management skills, in particular the ability to coordinate the work of a diverse range of employees
Good problem solving and decision-making skills
Excellent computer literacy
Strong relationship builder
Excellent health and fitness that matches the practical requirements of the role
Able to demonstrate a sound understanding of the challenges of working and living in a remote area, where flexibility and regular travel is required
manual drivers’ licence is mandatory
forklift licence (or ability to acquire same) mandatory
Previous experience working in remote or regional settings highly regarded
Previous knowledge and/or experience of working with Aboriginal communities, organisations and groups highly regarded
