Position Title: Centre Manager
Organisation: Not Everybody Works Employment Centre Ltd operating as Salamander Bay Recycling Centre.
Location: Salamander Bay, NSW, Australia
Reports to: Board of Directors (NB: Centre Manager role is not a Director role)
Reporting to this position: Operations Manager and some external contractors (see attached Organisational Chart)
Employment Fraction: To be negotiated. Some after hours work may be required.
Remuneration: 85-90K excluding super.
Position Status: Two year contract, with the opportunity for extension, subject to annual performance review
ABOUT OUR ORGANISATION
Salamander Bay Recycling Centre is a not-for-profit community organisation dedicated to environmental sustainability, community support, and waste reduction. We operate a community recycling centre, promoting the reuse of goods, ethical waste management, and social enterprise initiatives that support local employment, training, and social inclusion.
CENTRE MANAGER POSITION OVERVIEW
Our Centre Manager is responsible for the strategic leadership as well as overseeing the day-to-day management of the organisation, ensuring that our operations align with our vision, mission, and values.
Our Centre Manager works closely with the Board to implement our strategic direction and achieve sustainable organisational growth, while fostering collaborative community relationships and partnerships, and ensuring operational compliance and excellence is maintained.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF OUR CENTRE MANAGER
Strategic Leadership
Support the development of our strategic direction in collaboration with the Board and ensure the subsequent implementation of that strategic direction.
Identify and pursue opportunities for sustainable growth, collaborative relationships and partnerships, and community impact.
Ensure the alignment of all our activities with our vision, mission, values and strategic goals.
Role model our Code of Conduct both internally and externally.
Operational Management
Oversight all operations of the Centre, including staff and volunteer management, activities and logistics, workplace health and safety, and other compliance requirements.
Ensure the effective, ethical, and environmentally responsible running of all programs and services.
Lead the development and maintenance of policies, procedures, and performance quality standards.
Financial Oversight
Develop and manage annual budgets and financial plans.
Ensure sound financial management, reporting, and compliance with relevant regulations and charity governance.
Seek and secure funding through grants, partnerships, and other ethical revenue-generating activities.
Governance, Risk, Quality and Compliance
Report regularly to the Board on performance, risk, and strategy.
Ensure compliance with all legal, environmental, and workplace health and safety requirements.
Maintain and support high standards of accountability, transparency, and organisational governance.
Community Engagement and Advocacy
Act as the public face of our organisation, representing Salamander Bay Recycling Centre in the community and with stakeholders.
Build and maintain strong relationships with local government, the local business community, other local not-for-profits, donors, and other partners.
Promote environmental sustainability, volunteering, and social inclusion through public engagement.
People and Culture
Lead, inspire, and support our team of staff and volunteers.
Foster an inclusive, safe, and collaborative workplace culture.
Oversee recruitment, training, performance management, and wellbeing of our staff and volunteers.
Other duties as reasonably directed by the Board from time to time
EXECUTIVE LIMITATIONS
The executive functions and the financial and other delegations of the centre manager role are directly informed by policies put in place by the Board. Thus our Centre Manager must act in accordance with these policies and delegations at all times.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential
Strong strategic thinking, planning, and organisational skills.
Experience managing budgets, financials, and fundraising initiatives.
Commitment to environmental sustainability and community development.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with proven stakeholder engagement abilities.
Desirable
Experience in waste management, recycling, or circular economy initiatives.
Understanding of regional community dynamics and needs in Port Stephens or similar communities.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in management, community development, environment, or related fields.
Demonstrated leadership experience in a not-for-profit, social enterprise, or community-focused organisation.
Knowledge of Australian charity governance and compliance standards.
