Choice Aged Care - Financial Controller

About the Role

This is a permanent full-time opportunity providing financial management and support to the many diverse business units that make up Choice Aged Care. You will play a crucial role in supporting the financial health of the organisation, ensuring accurate financial records, and playing a key role in strategic planning and budgeting processes. This role reports directly to the COO and involves working closely with the Accounts Manager, Bookkeeper and external payroll to support them with financial compliance, budgeting and forecasting processes, and financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

· Ensure that supplier invoices are processed and paid

· Oversee lease, insurance & contract administration

· Maintain financial accounting records to allow for strategic financial analysis

· Preparing monthly P & L's

· Manage payroll and superannuation

· Lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS)

· Prepare outgoings budgets and coordinate annual washups

· Liaise with auditors to coordinate outgoings audits

· Reconcile inter-company transactions across 7 entities

· Preparation of annual budgets and forecasting

· Taxation compliance

· Balance sheet reconciliations

· Lead and manage a small team - both internal and external

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with Choice Aged Care values:

· Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting or financial management, ideally within the non-profit or vocational education sector.

· Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and best practice accounting.

· Experience with accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, or other.

· High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

· Excellent organisational and time-management skills.

· Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.

· Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

· A proactive approach to problem-solving and financial analysis.

· Understanding of non-profit funding structures, including government grants, donations, and sponsorship.

Experience and Qualifications

· CA/CPA qualified, with a relevant tertiary degree (Essential)

· Knowledge of Australian Taxation Office (ATO) requirements and non-profit tax exemptions. (Essential)

· Previous experience in grant management or reporting.

· Experience in a pharmacy, healthcare, registered training provider or educational institution environment.

· Strong experience in a senior financial leadership position within complex organisation during growth

· Track record of improving systems, controls, and reporting frameworks

· Service-oriented with a focus on detail, proactive mitigation of issues, and consistent follow-through on commitments.
