Mortgage Credit Underwriter

Mars Recruitment is currently partnering with a reputable financial services company that is looking for experienced Credit Underwriters to join their dynamic and growing Sydney-based team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders, where you'll play a key role in assessing residential mortgage applications and delivering timely, high-quality credit decisions.

Role & Responsibilities:

You'll be responsible for assessing new lending applications and variations, working closely with internal stakeholders across lending, distribution, and product teams. The ideal candidate will bring a balanced, commercial approach to underwriting, with strong attention to compliance and policy.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess and decision mortgage applications in line with credit policy and within your Delegated Lending Authority
• Recommend outcomes on applications outside DLA, including exception approvals with sound risk mitigants
• Maintain strong relationships with third-party originators and respond to queries in a timely and professional manner
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of credit policy and product development
• Support education and training efforts for internal sales teams and brokers

Essential Criteria:

• Minimum 2 years' experience in residential mortgage underwriting
• Strong knowledge of lending policies, credit risk assessment, and the Australian mortgage market
• Experience working with third-party channels (e.g. brokers, mortgage managers)
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
• Certificate IV in Mortgage Broking (or willingness to obtain)
• Diploma of Finance and Mortgage Broking Management preferred
