The opportunity

At Mediterranean Cafe Ristorante, we are seeking a talented and experienced Sous Chef to join our passionate team in Glenelg South, SA. As a key member of our kitchen, you will play a vital role in supporting the Head Chef and ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our bustling Mediterranean-inspired restaurant.

What you'll be doing

Assist the Head Chef in the daily running of the kitchen, including managing food production, stock control and staff supervision

Collaborate with the Head Chef to develop and refine our innovative menus, showcasing the vibrant flavors of the Mediterranean

Oversee the preparation and presentation of all dishes to the highest standards of quality and consistency

Ensure compliance with all food safety and hygiene regulations

Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to junior kitchen staff, helping to develop their skills and expertise

Contribute to a positive and productive kitchen environment, promoting a culture of teamwork and excellence

What we're looking for

Minimum 2-3 years of experience as a Sous Chef or equivalent, preferably in a high-volume, fast-paced restaurant environment

A passion for Mediterranean and Italian cuisine, with a deep understanding of flavor profiles and culinary techniques

Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and thrive under pressure

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven track record of effectively managing and developing kitchen teams

A commitment to maintaining the highest standards of food safety and hygiene

Formal culinary training or qualifications, such as a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, would be highly regarded
