Arts Capital Limited manages both Ainslie Arts Centre and Gorman Arts Centre, together known as Ainslie+Gorman, two public heritage-listed arts facilities in the heart of Canberra. Located within walking distance of each other, these centres are home to the capital’s largest and most diverse community of artists, arts organisations and community hirers.

Position Description

The Venue Hire Manager is responsible for managing the venue hire team in overseeing all aspects of venue hires at Ainslie+Gorman (A+G), from enquiry to delivery. This position is crucial for aligning use of the venues with the strategic and operational plans of Arts Capital and the A+G brand.

The position is highly collaborative, engaging with complex external and internal stakeholders. It works closely with the Venues and Facilities Director to ensure venue resources are managed efficiently and venue hire, and event delivery runs smoothly.

Responsibilities

Oversee all aspects of staff management for the venue hire team, including timesheet approvals, leave request approvals and coordination of onsite hours across A+G.

Oversee all aspects of venue hire bookings, resourcing, inductions, and event delivery, in line with Arts Capital’s Venue Hire Policy and Terms and Conditions of Hire.

Contribute to the development of annual budgets and operational plans.

Ensure strong internal coordination, including regular collaboration with other managers and contribution to organisational decision-making and communication.

Ensure resources are appropriately managed and the venue hire team have all relevant information to progress enquiries.

Oversee management of the annual venues budget, working with the CFO and bookkeeper to ensure record keeping of invoices and coding of expenses is undertaken correctly and accurately.

Utilise proactive approaches to identify opportunities with new and existing customers.

Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including residents and regular hirers, by identifying ways to improve service offerings to better meet their needs.

Proactively identify and mitigate booking conflicts or risks.

Use data to support informed operational decisions and deliver consistently positive customer experiences at all stages of the bookings process.

Working Conditions

Based primarily at Ainslie Arts Centre, with flexibility to work at Gorman Arts Centre as needed.

Will mostly be desk-bound but will require moderate physical work, including moving furniture and standing for extended periods.

Dynamic fast-paced environment with indoor and outdoor duties, depending on event requirements.

Minimal travel, primarily between centres, with occasional trips to other locations for meetings and event-related activities.

Selection Criteria

Strong time management skills with ability to manage competing priorities; and excellent attention to detail.

Proactive approach to enhancing venue utilisation and vibrancy, and building relationships with potential hirers.

Excellent customer service skills and ability to engage with a diverse range of people and communities.

Demonstrated experience managing staff or leading small teams, desirable.

Experience in event organisation or delivery, desirable.

Familiarity with live performance and creative arts venue operations – and / or knowledge of the local arts sector – desirable.

Basic technical knowledge of audio and video systems, desirable.
