About the Census
The Census of Population and Housing (Census) is run every five years and is one of the largest and important collections to count the number of people and houses in Australia. The Census collects information about where we live, age, our culture, religion, income, education, living and housing arrangements. The information is used to make important decisions, such as government funding, input into policy-making and electoral boundaries. The Census team is committed to producing high quality estimates about people experiencing homelessness. The next Census will be held in August 2026.

The Homelessness Enumeration Strategy is one of the Inclusive Strategies teams. We work with other Census teams to ensure:
- inclusive and supportive user experience for people experiencing homelessness
- smooth-running enumeration activities and operations management in all parts of Australia
- strong engagement and partnerships with the homelessness sector, government agencies, and other relevant stakeholders.
