We have an exciting opportunity to work at Box Hill Institute as our Youth Advocacy and Engagement Officer. This is a Fixed Term, Part Time (0.5 FTE) until June 2026 opportunity based at our Box Hill, Elgar Road Campus. This position reports directly to the Senior Child Safety Specialist and works collaboratively with the Manager (Principal) Schools Unit.

What you'll do:

  • Plan, establish and facilitate a Student Consultative Group that actively engages students in providing feedback on safety, wellbeing, and learning experiences.
  • Develop and implement procedures to ensure diverse student representation, including students from vulnerable, diverse, and underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Develop communication strategies to promote student participation and raise awareness of the group's purpose and outcomes.

  • Young People Engagement: Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing student engagement, advocacy programs or groups for young people within an educational or community services setting.
  • Diverse Young People: Experience in working with vulnerable, diverse, and underrepresented populations, particularly in promoting child safety and wellbeing.
  • Child Safety Awareness: Demonstrated experience in leading the promotion of child safety awareness programs across a large organisation
  • Victorian Working with Children Check clearance
  • National Police Check clearance

Qualifications and experience:

  • A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Youth Work, Community Services, Education, Psychology, or a related discipline, or significant relevant experience in a group work, youth advocacy, or youth work.
  • Additional experience in child safety, child protection, trauma-informed practice and/or delivering training is highly desirable.
