About the Role
Mornington Peninsula Libraries (MPL) is a dynamic public library service, providing a welcoming, inclusive and stimulating environment where life-long habits of learning and self-expression are encouraged, a love of reading is nurtured, and where library users can meet their educational, information and recreational needs.
The Library Officer provides outstanding customer service to library customers and supports the library team in delivering an exceptional service to the Mornington Peninsula community and its visitors. The position is responsible for promoting the Shire’s values of Integrity, Courage, Openness, Respect and Excellence.
Reporting to the Library Services Coordinator, the core responsibilities include:
- Providing exceptional customer-focused service, placing our patrons at the heart of what we do.
- Supporting the day-to-day operations of the library including shelving, tidying and display maintenance.
- Supporting the library team in delivering positive, interactive programs and activities that engage all members of the community in lifelong learning, digital literacy and technology.
- Helping customers to access online library services, products and other technologies and provide training and support through formal or informal training programs.
About You
- Successful completion of Year 12 or equivalent.
- Relevant prior experience in public libraries is desirable.
- Substantial experience in frontline customer service and IT applications – and the ability to troubleshoot issues.
- Sound general knowledge and interest in books and reading.
- Ability to provide training in customer service tasks to meet library specific processes and procedures.

About Mornington Peninsula Shire
The Mornington Peninsula is located just over an hour’s drive away from the city, on Melbourne’s ‘doorstep’, and is often described as Melbourne’s playground. It is the most popular informal recreation area in Victoria.
