About the role
Reporting to the Coordinator of Revenue, the Finance Officer (Rates) will support the effective administration and management of the City’s rating and property database. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate billing, compliance with statutory obligations, and timely collection of rates and charges.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and update the City’s property database, including ownership changes, valuations, land use, and service charges.
Process rate transactions, including annual and interim rates, direct debits, interest, and other charges.
Assist in the enforcement of outstanding rates and manage pensioner rebates and non-rateable property register.
Provide accurate advice and assistance to ratepayers and internal stakeholders on rating and property matters.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of rating procedures, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice.
About the successful candidate
To be successful in this role, you will be a highly organised and analytical professional with sound knowledge of rating processes and relevant legislation within a local government context. Your attention to detail and ability to manage competing deadlines are important.
Other requirements include:
Completion or near completion of a relevant qualification (e.g. Diploma of Accounting or Certificate IV in Business (Administration), or equivalent experience in a similar role, ideally within local government.
Proficiency in using financial systems (TechnologyOne or Civica Authority desirable) and Microsoft Office.
Strong communication skills, with a high level of customer service.
A current National Police Certificate.
What we offer
This permanent, full-time position offers a cash salary of $81,874 - $95,241 per annum (subject to a 3.5% Agreement increment in July 2025), dependent on skills and experience, plus superannuation.

The City of Nedlands is situated just 7km from Perth and stretches from the banks of the beautiful Swan River to the edge of the Indian Ocean. On 1 July, 1959 the City of Nedlands was proclaimed at the command of Governor Sir Charles Gairdner, in the packed Dalkeith Civic Hall. Mr Allan Jenkins read out the proclamation and the Minister for Local Government, Mr Leslie Logan, M.L.C. conducted the official swearing in ceremony of the new Mayor, John Charles Smith, the twelve new Councillors and the auditors. He then appointed Mr Allan Jenkins as the City's first Town Clerk. Among those present was MLA for Nedlands, Deputy Premier Charles Court.
Significant events and dates that contributed to the development of the City of Nedlands:
1893: The first move to establish Local Government in our area with the creation of the Claremont Road Board on 31 March, 1893, governing a total area of ten square miles; forty years after the death of Adam Armstrong, Nedlands' first resident.
1898: Approximately two square miles excised to form the Municipality of Claremont.
1932: Name changed from Claremont Road Board to Nedlands Road Board.
1956: Name changed from Nedlands Road Board to the Municipality of Nedlands.
1959: One hundred and thirty years after the first British settlement around the Swan River, Nedlands achieved City status. Name changed from Nedlands Road Board to the City of Nedlands while under the guidance of Mayor John Charles Smith Esq., JP Mayor.
