About the role

Council is seeking a proactive, experienced, and technically capable individual to take on the pivotal role of Coordinator Open Space, Recreational and Building Assets.

As the Coordinator, you will provide strategic and operational leadership in the management, planning, maintenance and improvement of Council’s diverse portfolio of open space, recreational and building assets.

You will lead a multidisciplinary team, deliver capital works programs, manage asset condition reporting and financial forecasting, and oversee asset-related systems, policies and practices in alignment with Council’s goals and legislative requirements.

Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop, implement, and review Asset Management Plans for open space, recreational and building assets
  • Provide expert advice on strategic delivery of Council priorities related to assets
  • Ensure effective management of key recreational facilities including Ku-ring-gai Fitness & Aquatic Centre and golf courses
  • Oversee leases, licences and service levels associated with Council-owned assets to ensure favourable commercial and community outcomes
  • Maintain asset management systems, ensuring accurate data collection, condition assessments, compliance and financial reporting
  • Conduct strategic and financial modelling to support capital works planning
  • Lead, develop, and mentor a professional asset management team
  • Develop and implement policies, inspection programs and improvement plans to ensure sustainable long-term asset performance
  • Liaise with stakeholders including Council teams, State authorities, adjoining councils, and the community
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislative frameworks including the Local Government Act and NSW Roads Act

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Facility Management or a related field
  • Extensive experience managing open space, recreational and building infrastructure
  • Proven background in asset condition assessments, financial reporting and capital works program development
  • Demonstrated leadership in team management, policy development, strategic planning and contractor/consultant supervision
  • High-level technical, financial and strategic asset management skills
  • Ability to prioritise, multi-task and deliver projects within time and budget constraints
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and engage diverse stakeholders
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office, asset management systems and GIS integration
  • Strong problem-solving, negotiation and conflict resolution capabilities
  • In-depth knowledge of asset-related legislative requirements
