The Opportunity

As part of our broader ICT team, our Data Services Team play an integral part in ensuring the ongoing integrity of data handled by our professional services staff and researchers. We now have an exciting opportunity for a Data Governance Officer to join our team to help us achieve this.

Reporting to our Data Services Manager, you will help shape our approach to data management and governance in line with strategic objectives. The main focus of this role will be to support the implementation of our data governance framework to improve data quality, processes, and the required level of protection to meet The Kids’ needs and minimise operational and reputational risk. You will also assist in developing and implementing data governance policies, processes and controls.

Your strong relationship building and communication skills will be crucial in this role as you develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders to educate, support and manage knowledge around data handling best practises.

Some of your responsibilities in this role will include:

Supporting the enhancement and implementation of a centralised data governance framework aligned with our strategic objectives.

Ensuring consistent application of our data governance framework—covering policies, standards, and practices—across projects and teams to maintain data quality, integrity, and security.

Collaborating with data owners and stewards to identify data quality issues and root causes.

Embedding data policies into practice, supporting researchers and other key stakeholders to meet their data management and compliance requirements.

Engaging, educating, and supporting stakeholders by serving as the subject matter expert (SME) for data governance frameworks, standards, processes, and architectures.

Conveniently located within Perth Children’s Hospital, this position will be offered on a full-time, ongoing basis.

About You

The successful candidate will hold a tertiary qualification in a relevant field such as Business, Information Management or Data Science and will have experience in the information management field, preferably in the data management and data quality areas.

Along with this, the key to your success will your demonstrated skills and experience in the following areas:

Experience with establishing/revising data related polices, Standard Operating Procedures and auditing compliance.

Strong understanding of data governance principles, frameworks, and best practices as applied in health research.

Strong analytical, decision making and problem-solving abilities.

Understanding of data related regulatory requirements.

High level of interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build long lasting relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the ability to influence and drive change
