About the position

This newly created Community Programs Officer role plays a vital part in designing and delivering inclusive, engaging, and responsive recreation and sporting programs across the City. Guided by the City's Strategic Community Plan, the role focuses on planning and coordinating a variety of programs, workshops, and events that reflect community interests, while supporting health, wellbeing, and social inclusion.

Working across the City’s recreation sites you will manage program schedules, evaluate outcomes, and drive continuous improvement. A key part of the role includes working collaboratively with internal teams, community groups, and other stakeholders to maximise program reach and impact. The officer will also stay across emerging trends, explore funding opportunities, and contribute to promotional activities in partnership with communications teams to ensure strong community awareness and participation.

This is a dynamic and flexible role that calls for creativity, operational coordination, and a strong community focus.

About the person

You are a motivated and community-minded individual with experience in planning and delivering sport and recreation programs that reflect diverse community needs. You bring a practical understanding of how to evaluate programs, engage stakeholders, and adapt services to achieve meaningful outcomes. With a sound knowledge of contemporary trends in community recreation and a proactive mindset, you're able to translate ideas into well-run, impactful programs.

You thrive in a team environment, build strong working relationships, and communicate effectively across a variety of audiences. Your ability to adapt across different service areas—such as libraries, community centres and recreation hubs—demonstrates your flexibility and commitment to inclusive service delivery. You take pride in fostering a respectful, high-performing workplace and are eager to contribute to a healthier, more connected community.
