Opt Energy Pty Ltd is a leading Accredited Provider under the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU)
program, committed to delivering high-efficiency energy solutions across residential and commercial
sectors in Victoria. Our work supports the Victorian State’s transition toward a sustainable energy
future. Due to ongoing growth, we are seeking a skilled Accountant to manage core accounting
responsibilities with a strong understanding of government-regulated energy programs.
About the Role
The role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of traditional accounting and
government-regulated energy efficiency programs. You will be responsible for managing day-to-
day accounting functions while also playing a pivotal role in overseeing the financial compliance,
tracking, and strategic modelling related to VEU and other renewable energy activities.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and examine financial statements, cash flow reports, project budgets, and VEEC
revenue forecasts.
Maintain activity-based budgets and cost-recovery models for VEU and renewable energy
projects.
Maintain internal control systems and contribute to process improvements.
Administer payroll, PAYG, superannuation, and employee-related obligations in compliance with
taxation laws.
Ensure accurate preparation and lodgement of BAS, IAS, and GST statements.
Monitor VEEC market activity and develop payout schedules for subcontractors and partners in
real time.
Conduct financial investigations, trading analysis, and risk assessments for project viability.
Prepare audit-ready documentation for external auditors, the Essential Services Commission
(ESC), and relevant authorities.
Ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB) and statutory reporting
requirements.
Analyse trading trends and provide financial forecasts to support project planning.
Manage VEEC ledger, receivables, and internal controls related to certificate transactions.
Assist in preparation of compliance documentation and external audits under the VEU scheme
Skills & Experience Required
Degree-qualified in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (CA/CPA qualification desirable).
Minimum 3 years of accounting experience
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, MYOB) and advanced Excel
Experience in accounting in a government-funded program such as VEU, NGER, or ESC
schemes highly regarded.
Excellent organisational, analytical, and communication skills with high attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and liaise effectively with auditors, regulators, and internal teams.
Salary Range
$90,000 - $95000
