Senior Platform Engineer
Sydney (Hybrid) | Full-Time | Leading National Retailer

A well-known Australian retail business with hundreds of physical locations is scaling its digital and infrastructure platforms. This role sits within a high-performing engineering function that supports critical, high-traffic services used by both customers and internal teams.

This is a hands-on senior role, working within a lean team focused on building secure, scalable, event-driven architecture using modern AWS tooling. The platform is built using CDK in TypeScript, and the stack includes Lambda, ECS, Redis, RDS, and Datadog across a fully cloud-native environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and deliver infrastructure using AWS CDK (TypeScript)
• Manage and maintain Lambda, ECS (Fargate), API Gateway, EventBridge, SNS/SQS
• Configure DNS, routing, and health checks through Route 53
• Set up and maintain observability across all services using Datadog
• Implement secure and compliant AWS environments (IAM, VPCs, encryption, secrets)
• Maintain caching strategies with Redis (ElastiCache)
• Contribute to CI/CD using GitHub Actions, including environment automation
• Support on-call as part of a shared rotation, with a strong focus on incident prevention
• Own documentation and contribute to internal tooling and platform standards

What We Are Looking For

• 5+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering
• Strong practical experience with AWS services and infrastructure as code (CDK, Terraform or CloudFormation)
• Confident working with containerised environments in ECS
• Proficient in scripting and automation (TypeScript, SQL, shell)
• Solid understanding of AWS networking, Route 53, Redis, and security controls
• Experience with monitoring and alerting using Datadog or similar tools
• Able to work independently, take ownership, and collaborate well across teams

Bonus Skills

• Exposure to EKS or hybrid container environments
• Familiarity with service mesh or advanced API Gateway configurations
• Experience with cost optimisation in cloud environments
• AWS certifications (DevOps Professional, Security Specialty, etc.)
