You will play a pivotal role in working closely with senior leaders and business services teams to deliver high-quality HR guidance and support. The firm offers flexible working arrangements, world-class professional development, and the chance to be part of a truly global network.

  • Enjoy flexible working hours from 9:00am to 5:30pm with additional flexibility as required, ensuring you can balance work and life commitments effectively while contributing at your best.

  • Join a highly collaborative HR team dedicated to empowering all employees, where your input will directly shape the employee experience and drive key HR initiatives across the business.

What you'll do:

As a Senior Human Resources Business Partner based in Sydney CBD on a fixed-term contract, you will be instrumental in delivering high-quality HR services across all facets of the employee lifecycle. Your day-to-day responsibilities will see you partnering with senior leaders to provide practical advice on everything from recruitment strategy through to performance management frameworks. You will oversee complex resourcing needs-ensuring best practice recruitment methods are applied-and take ownership of onboarding processes for new hires. In addition to managing secondments and succession planning activities that support both local growth and international mobility initiatives, you will champion continuous improvement in performance management by coaching leaders on effective feedback techniques. Your expertise will also be called upon when advising on sensitive employee relations matters or guiding teams through organisational change. By collaborating closely with colleagues at every level of the business-including external partners-you will help shape reward strategies that attract top talent while supporting ongoing projects designed to enhance HR delivery. Ultimately, your ability to build trust-based relationships will ensure you are seen as a valued advisor who contributes meaningfully to both individual success stories and broader organisational goals.

  • Provide comprehensive HR support and guidance to partners, management, and employees across recruitment, performance management, learning and development, mobility, employee engagement, occupational health and safety, policy implementation, change management, remuneration, and benefits.
  • Work closely with the Head of Operations and Regional Head of HR to ensure seamless delivery of day-to-day HR operations for approximately 110 internal clients within the Sydney office.
  • Oversee end-to-end recruitment processes including forecasting resourcing needs, reviewing job descriptions with partners, managing recruitment campaigns, conducting interviews, onboarding new hires, and monitoring headcount against budget.
  • Manage secondment programmes, international twinning arrangements, internal moves, succession planning activities, and provide support for work visa applications and relocation assistance as needed.
  • Lead performance management initiatives by developing appraisal systems, coaching partners on continuous feedback practices, analysing review results, and implementing appropriate follow-up actions for both top talent and those requiring additional support.
  • Advise managers and partners on employee relations matters using up-to-date knowledge of legislation; proactively communicate changes in laws or policies while applying best practice approaches to grievance procedures, disciplinary actions, absence management, restructuring issues, and flexible working requests.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across practice groups to create tailored human resources solutions that address specific team needs while maintaining commercial relevance and technical accuracy.
  • Develop reward strategies by participating in salary surveys and market research; assist in managing annual salary reviews and bonus processes while ensuring compensation policies remain competitive within the industry.
  • Support the implementation of local and global HR projects such as new HRIS rollouts; manage risk and security processes in line with ISO audits or client requirements; contribute to WGEA reporting as required.
  • Build strong relationships across all levels of the firm to become a trusted business advisor; analyse management information such as exit interviews to inform attraction and retention strategies.

What you bring:

To excel as a Senior Human Resources Business Partner in this leading international law firm's Sydney office, you will bring substantial operational experience gained within similarly complex environments-preferably from legal or professional services backgrounds. Your interpersonal strengths will enable you to connect authentically with colleagues at every level while providing empathetic guidance during challenging situations. A thorough grounding in employment legislation ensures your advice remains both technically sound and commercially relevant. You are adept at navigating shifting priorities thanks to your adaptable mindset; whether supporting major change initiatives or resolving day-to-day queries promptly. Your academic background underpins your practical expertise while advanced digital skills allow you to leverage technology for efficient process management. Above all else, your resourcefulness shines through when collaborating across teams-sharing insights generously so others may benefit from your knowledge. With excellent communication abilities underpinning every interaction you have within this cohesive workplace community.

  • At least five years' operational experience as a Senior Human Resources Business Partner or Junior Human Resources Manager within a reputable organisation-ideally within legal or professional services sectors-demonstrating proven capability across all core areas of HR.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels; recognised as an effective coach who fosters collaboration between business leaders and their teams.
  • Demonstrated flexibility in responding positively to changing priorities; comfortable taking ownership of tasks in ambiguous environments while maintaining a hands-on approach that supports team objectives.
  • Proven track record of handling sensitive people issues confidentially and fairly; deep understanding of employment law parameters combined with an ability to build trusting relationships throughout the organisation.
  • Tertiary qualification in Human Resources or related discipline; strong knowledge of current employment legislation is essential for providing accurate advice on policy matters.
  • Comprehensive understanding of contemporary HR/IR issues coupled with a willingness to continuously develop your own role so as to improve service delivery for internal clients.
  • Advanced computer literacy including experience with HR systems (essential); familiarity with SAP SuccessFactors is desirable but not mandatory for success in this role.
  • Resourceful approach when teaming effectively with office support staff; able to lead administrative aspects of HR functions efficiently under tight deadlines without compromising attention to detail.
  • People management experience including performance management responsibilities; willingness to share best practice knowledge openly within the team environment is highly valued here.
