Rate: Daily rate up to $900 + Super
About the Role We’re seeking an experienced Carbon Accountant to join a large government department for a 9-month contract. In this role, you’ll take the lead in collecting, analysing and validating emissions-related data across a complex and diverse portfolio. Your work will directly support greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory development and transparent climate-related disclosures, helping to shape the department’s sustainability and emissions reduction initiatives.
Key Responsibilities

• Collect, validate, and analyse energy use and emissions data across a wide range of sites and activities.
• Develop and maintain a reliable greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory aligned with government guidelines and frameworks.
• Identify and resolve data quality issues including gaps, anomalies, or inconsistencies.
• Collaborate across internal teams to enhance data flows and reporting accuracy.
• Document data sources, methodologies and assumptions to ensure transparency and audit readiness.
• Support reporting and planning efforts relating to emissions reduction and climate targets.

About You

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage large datasets.
• Knowledge of carbon accounting principles, emissions reporting standards, and climate disclosures.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaborative, with experience managing competing priorities and working across multiple teams.
• High attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and integrity.

Essential Requirements

• Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, sustainability, accounting, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience in carbon accounting, sustainability reporting, or environmental data analysis.

Desirable

• Previous experience in or with the public sector.
• Familiarity with government sustainability frameworks or climate-related financial disclosure requirements.
• Proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
